Frontline workers across Devon are being invited to enjoy a free day at Exeter Racecourse on Sunday 23 November as the course hosts its annual Devon Air Ambulance Raceday, one of the region’s strongest displays of community support for a local lifesaving charity. Blue Light Card holders can gain free entry on a first-come, first-served basis.
The raceday, now firmly established in the county’s calendar, brings together families, racing fans, local groups and community organisations to celebrate the work of the Devon Air Ambulance, which operates 365 days a year and remains one of the Westcountry’s most essential emergency services.
The racecourse will be busy from the start, with a dedicated children’s area in the Best Mate Room offering crafts, a traditional Punch and Judy show, and glitter artists in a warm ground-floor space overlooking the course. For groups wanting to enjoy the camaraderie of a day at the races, the AP’s, Martin Pipe and 1769 bars will be open, with bars, bookies and food all adding to the raceday experience.
Exeter Racecourse’s commitment to the region stretches far beyond its major racedays. It regularly supports local charities and community groups through Racing to School sessions, school visits on non-racedays, partnerships with universities and colleges, ticket donations for charities and events across Devon, its upcoming ELF Raceday on 5 December in support of the Exeter Leukaemia Fund and raceday bucket collections.
General manager Jack Parkinson said: “This raceday is a firm favourite and we’re delighted to throw our support behind Devon Air Ambulance. They’re an essential service for the Westcountry and every penny raised helps keep their helicopters in the air. Come and trade the sofa for a cracking Sunday at the races and enjoy being part of something that really does save lives.”
Travel support is also in place, with free buses departing Exeter St Davids at 10.45am and returning at 4.30pm on a first-come, first-served basis.
Gates open at 10.20am, the first race begins at 12.21pm, and the final race starts at 3.46pm.
