Newmarket FAQs

Walk-up tickets will be available for racedays which have not already sold out, unless when specified otherwise. Please do check the website of each individual fixture or contact the racecourse directly if you require further information.

Payments made by card only.

However, we do recommend that tickets are purchased in advance. Pre-booked tickets reduce the time taken to enter the racecourse on the day. If you are collecting your tickets on the day please note that the Ticket Collection will be closed by the 3rd Race. 

If you have purchased Grandstand & Paddock or Garden Enclosure tickets  your ticket is designed to be either printed at home on your home printer and brought with you on the day or presented on arrival on your mobile phone from your email confirmation.

You may also opt for your ticket to be sent to you via The Jockey Club app. If you cannot access your ticket please call 0344 579 3010 for assistance.

Please note that Premier Enclosure & Hospitality tickets will be posted out and are not available as e-tickets, as a badge/wristband is required to accompany the ticket. If you purchased the week of the event your tickets will be available for collection on the day. Please note that the Ticket Collection will be closed by the 3rd Race. Please have your order number ready for collection - Premier Enclosure collection will be from our Premier Entrance 2 ticket collection booth and Hospitality are available to collect from our main Premier Entrance – thatched building (for July Course Racing).

Children under the age of 18 are very welcome at our racedays and can attend free of charge (excludes Newmarket Nights & Summer Saturday Live – please see Music FAQ’s). All those under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a responsible adult age 21+ or their parent to gain entry to the venue, limited to three under 18s per 21 year old.

Children’s tickets are subject to availability and may be limited at high demand fixtures.

Under 18 tickets can be added to your basket for free when purchasing an adult ticket, excludes Newmarket Nights & Summer Saturday Live events when full priced tickets apply.

All those under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a responsible adult (21+ years or their parent) to gain entry to the venue, limited to three under 18s per adult.

Once in the venue, those aged 15 years and under must be accompanied by their responsible adult for the duration of their time at the Racecourse. 16 to 17-year-olds do not need to be accompanied around the venue but must still have their responsible adult on site and must adhere to site policies.

As Newmarket Nights are our Friday evening racing plus music events with the artist taking to the stage at any time from 8pm, our recommendation is that Newmarket Nights are not suitable for children under the age of 18.

Our racecourses continue to operate on a ‘cashless’ basis, including concessions. However, cash may be used when placing bets with all on-course bookmakers. 

If an event is cancelled or a fixture is abandoned our refund policy would apply. Please refer to our terms and conditions for more information.

If you fall ill on a raceday and are able to get home safely we suggest you leave as soon as possible. If you need assistance please alert one of our racecourse team members who can contact qualified first aiders to help you.

Should you suffer from a medical condition which requires you to carry medication and/or equipment with you in the event of an emergency, such as a diabetic who many require to carry insulin and needles, we will of course allow these items into the racecourse, however we require the following actions/documentation to support your entry to the venue.

Please ensure your doctor or health care professional provides you with written confirmation to confirm your medical condition and the medication and/or equipment you require to bring to the racecourse for your welfare in the event of a medical emergency. Please ensure you bring this letter with you as our security personnel will require sight of this letter to allow you entry to the racecourse.

Please note, should the above process not be followed you may not be granted access to the venue due to strict safety regulations regarding prohibited and restricted items being allowed into the venue for safety purposes. Your ticket will not be refunded as a result.

RCA-issued accreditation, including badge schemes and metal badges, are accepted forms of entry at most fixtures but will be used in conjunction with the PASS system.

Please note there will be a small number of fixtures where RCA-issued badges and accreditation will NOT be accepted and you will be required to apply directly to the racecourse for accreditation. We ask you to continue to check the specific raceday information and contact the racecourse directly if you require further guidance.

RCA metal badges (press/photography) to apply via PASS system the day before. Passcards must be displayed at the point of entry. Non accredited press/photographers will need to apply via the Racecourse.

Spectators are welcome to travel to and from the raceday by any form of transport. Ample free parking is available at all our racecourses. Please see our transport page for options including our Free Shuttle Bus.

Cash may be used when placing bets on the Tote and with all on-course bookmakers.

Please note that due to new laws prohibiting the use of credit to place a bet, all betting facilities on site will be unable to accept Apple Pay.

Yes. The Tote and bookmakers will be present. For betting facilities only, contactless is recommended, but cash payments will still be an option.

Food and drink cannot be brought into the Hospitality, Premier, Champions Lawn, Century Stand, or Grandstand & Paddock Enclosures. Only food and drink purchased from racecourse vendors may be consumed in these enclosures.

Picnics are welcome and may be consumed only in the Garden Enclosure or car park areas.

Please note that the Garden Enclosure is not open at all fixtures. We recommend checking the racecourse website before your visit. During the summer, particularly at Newmarket Nights and Summer Saturday Live events, the Garden Enclosure may sell out. On these occasions, access is restricted to customers who have pre-purchased Garden Enclosure tickets.

Annual Badge holders will not be able to access the Garden Enclosure during sold-out events.

When the Garden Enclosure is closed or sold out, picnics may only be consumed in the car parks.

Alcohol Policy

Alcohol may only be brought into the Garden Enclosure when accompanied by a substantial picnic. The following limits apply per person:

• One bottle of wine or champagne; OR
• Four cans of beer, cider, or pre-mixed aperitif.

Please note that beer and cider must be in cans. Spirits, fortified wines, Pimm's (or similar drinks), and other prohibited alcoholic beverages are NOT permitted.

Restricted Items

The following items are not permitted on course including car parks:

• Metal or ceramic knives
• Corkscrews
• Sharp knives
• Jars containing pickles, salad dressings, or similar contents
• Barbecues (including in car parks)
• Glasses

After Racing

Once racing has finished, garden chairs, tables, picnic boxes, picnic blankets, and any other personal items brought into the course cannot be taken into the Premier or Grandstand & Paddock Enclosures.

Items may be:

• Left at the luggage drop-off point in the Garden Enclosure;
• Left at the luggage drop-off point in the Blue Car Park; or
• Returned to your vehicle at your own risk.

Picnic blankets are not permitted in the Premier or Grandstand & Paddock Enclosures during racing or concerts.

A large screen is available in the Garden Enclosure for those wishing to remain there and enjoy the live music performances in a more relaxed environment.

In the event you cannot attend the raceday your ticket may be transferred to another person, as long as you don’t gain financially from the transfer.

To guarantee availability, it is essential that you telephone us on the same day you make your ticket purchase if you wish to request a personal assistant ticket. We are unable to offer this on the raceday.

We offer complimentary admission to one accompanying personal assistant in circumstances where a person with a disability would otherwise be at a substantial disadvantage without the personal assistant.

Please note that tickets purchased through Third Party Ticket Agents and not directly with the Jockey Club will not be included in our PA policy and will not be offered a PA Free ticket.

Garden furniture and picnics are permitted within the Garden Enclosure ONLY. Unbranded gazebos (maximum size 3m x 6m), and large fishing umbrellas may also be used in this area. All such items must be positioned well back from the running rail and secured appropriately at all times.

The Racecourse reserves the right to refuse entry to, or request the removal of, any such items if they are deemed to pose a safety risk, including in adverse weather conditions.

Please note that garden furniture and picnics are not permitted in any other enclosures. We have a Left Luggage facility within the Garden Enclosure which is available for the storage of these items if you wish to watch the concert from the Grandstand & Paddock or Premier Enclosure once racing has finished and you are permitted to move into the other enclosures. The left luggage storage is manned, so your items are safe and free service.

The racecourse is made up of three enclosures during racing; Premier, Grandstand & Paddock and the Garden Enclosure.

Please note that Enclosures do sell out for various meetings, including our popular themed Summer Saturday events, including recently, such as in 2023 with Dinosaur Day. If certain enclosures are at capacity, with this example, the Garden Enclosure being sold out,  access is not guaranteed for those with Grandstand & Paddock tickets, Premier Enclosure tickets or Annual Badge Holders. However, we will work hard to accomodate as many guests as possible into this particular enclosure, with a one-in, one-out system where appropriate. We will also ensure that there is plenty of entertainment in the Grandstand & Paddock Enclosure too!

Enclosures

Amended 1^st September 2025 - all under 18s must be accompanied by an adult aged 21+

• All children must have a valid entry ticket
• Under 18’s are free of charge for all events with the exception of Newmarket Nights & Summer Saturday Live (please see music FAQ’s), when charges apply
• All those under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a responsible adult age 21+ or their parent to gain entry to the venue, limited to three under 18s per 21 year old. Once in the venue, those aged 15 years and under must be accompanied by their responsible adult for the duration of their time at the Racecourse. 16 to 17-year-olds do not need to be accompanied around the racecourse but must retain their own entry ticket and must still have their responsible adult on site and must adhere to site policies
• Please apply for anyone in your group aged 17 and under at the time of booking your tickets. These are free of charge but must be booked in advance at the time of booking the adult ticket
• All tickets will be scanned on entry and proof of age may be required for the holder of a child ticket
• One adult of 21+ can supervise a maximum of 3 children 17 and under
• Under 18’s will not be permitted to purchase alcohol or place a bet. Anyone found doing so may be ejected from the racecourse
• ICE (In Case of Emergency) wristbands are available for young persons on request, parents’ contact details can be written on the wristbands in case of separation.

Newmarket Nights

Visit the above page for dress codes at Newmarket Nights at the July Course. We do recommend comfortable shoes and during inclement weather forecasts, wellies and umbrellas are permitted. Please note: We do ask that you refrain from using umbrellas during the concert which restricts other customers viewing.

General Guidance
We reserve the right to refuse entry to any enclosure to anyone who is dressed inappropriately. In the event of one or all or your party being refused admission, no refund will be offered.

The event is sold as an outdoor standing event with limited cover. Some of our bar areas have a small amount of shelter but most areas are open to the elements. We therefore advise that you dress appropriately for the weather but in accordance with the dress code at Newmarket Racecourses.

During inclement weather, boots and umbrellas are permitted during racing.

Yes, you can upgrade your ticket (subject to availability). At the Rowley Mile, tickets can be upgraded at Customer Relations Desk or at the Information Point near to the Grandstand & Paddock entrance. At the July Course, there is an upgrade point next to the Course Office. Garden Enclosure ticket upgrades can be purchased from the upgrade point located between the transfer gate from the Garden Enclosure to the Grandstand & Paddock Enclosure on the July Course. On the Rowley Mile, Garden Enclosure tickets can be upgraded at the Garden Enclosure turnstiles.

Bars and restaurants are open up to 1 hour after racing has finished, some bars and restaurants close depending on the popularity of a race meeting.

We hold concerts after racing on Newmarket Nights and Summer Saturday’s Live, all artists are scheduled to be on stage 20 minutes after the last race and perform for up to 90 minutes.

During feature Festivals, we host Après Racing, Newmarket's official after party. Après Racing starts approximately 15 minutes after the last race and live entertainment will be provided for approximately 90 minutes.

We highly recommend using one of our two bus services to get to the course.

The free shuttle bus operates from Newmarket High Street (outside Hughes Electrical) and Newmarket Train Station to the Rowley Mile and July Course on all racedays. The service starts two hours before the first race and resumes immediately after the last race, running continuously until the venue is clear. No booking is required for this service.

We offer a Outrider bus service from Cambridge and Royston train station, as well as from Bury St Edmunds bus station and Ely town centre.

A range of food and beverage options is offered around the racecourse. If you would like to bring a picnic you can do so in the Garden Enclosure or the car parks.

Alcohol can only be brought into the Garden Enclosure with a substantial picnic and it is limited to one bottle of wine or champagne per person or 4 cans of beer, cider or pre-mixed aperitif. Unfortunately, spirits, fortified wines and Pimm’s (or similar) will not be allowed on course. You are not allowed to bring food or drink into the Premier or Grandstand & Paddock Enclosures.

Please note bag and physical searches will be in operation. Dogs may be in operation at the entrances for enhanced security searches.

Restricted Items

Newmarket Racecourses rarely suffers abandonments but Jockey Club Racecourses’ policy for a standard raceday is to give a full refund if the meeting is abandoned before the completion of the first race, a 50 per cent refund if the meeting is abandoned before the completion of the third or feature race, whichever is later. After which, there is no refund available. See our Terms and Conditions of entry for full details.

We are a cashless venue. There are no cash machines (ATMs) available on site.

However, on-course betting facilities will still accept cash, and the Tote offers cashback on a minimum £10 bet.

Please note:

• Debit cards are accepted for betting
• Credit cards cannot be used for betting

At the Rowley Mile, luggage can be left at the Premier Entrance or the Information Point located in G&P. At the July Course, luggage can be left at the Garden Enclosure, inside the turnstiles. Please note, there is limited storage available.

All lost property may be handed in or collected from the information points on the Rowley Mile or at the course office at the July Course.

Tickets can be purchased from our official entrances except during sell-out events. We strongly advise that tickets are purchased in advance especially for our popular events, including Newmarket Nights, the QIPCO Guineas Festival and the July Festival as these often sell out due to popularity. Early bird discounts are in place to ensure that you receive the best possible price when booking in advance. Discounts end midnight the day before racing, subject to availability. 

Regrettably, no dogs are allowed, other than Assistance Dogs, within the enclosures. 

We do not allow dogs to be left in vehicles in our car parks.

We have many hospitality packages at Newmarket Racecourses and can be purchased via our website or by calling the hospitality team on 01638 675 300.

Tours of the historic gallops in Newmarket are operated by Discover Newmarket.

In the interests of providing the best possible ground for the horses, the only people allowed to walk the course on racedays or in the build up to race meetings are the owners, trainers and jockeys of horses running at the meeting.

If you are likely to have a bet it is advisable to have cash. Most bookmakers take a minimum bet of £5, but this is clearly displayed on their boards. The Tote will take bets from £2. William Hill betting shops are located on both courses and will accept card payments.

A racecard is a good investment, with a detailed guide to everything that is going on each day plus features and tips. These cost £3.50 on the day or £3.00 in advance. If you would like to do some homework beforehand, race details and tips are in the sports pages of national newspapers, or online at www.racingpost.com, www.sportinglife.com or via our own website.

First Aid staff will be on duty at every meeting.

At the Rowley Mile, the First Aid room can be found next to the Premier Entrance.

At the July Course, it is located by the Course Office, in the public medical room.

As is standard practice across sports and leisure venues, racecourses seek to protect their image rights in their terms and conditions of entry. These regulations are in place to ensure that any commercial income streams generated, in this case via photography, are protected and available to be reinvested into racing. Whilst racecourses do not wish to dissuade customers from taking pictures of their day out, it is important that this remains on a personal level and not for commercial purpose.

If you are wishing to use a “professional” camera (a camera with a substantial detachable lens) on course, please visit the Free Pass Office on arrival to sign a declaration that you will not sell or use images for publicity or financial gain and to obtain a pass. Anyone found in breach of our T&Cs will be removed from the site. If you are an accredited member of the media, permission must be sought through the Press Office before arrival and official media accreditation will be provided.

Compact digital cameras and mobile phones are not classed as “professional” equipment.

Tickets purchased within 7 days of a raceday are automatically available for collection.

At the Rowley Mile ticket collection for all enclosures is located next to the Grandstand & Paddock turnstile entrance. Hospitality ticket collection is located at Premier Entrance 1.

At the July Course ticket collection for Premier and Grandstand & Paddock Enclosures is located at Premier Entrance 2, with hospitality tickets being available for collection at Premier Entrance 1. Garden Enclosure tickets can be collected from the Garden Enclosure turnstile entrance.

Currently the app is able to import tickets that are Print at Home. To import the tickets, either scan the QR code on the ticket pdf or enter the bookers email and order confirmation.

Tickets can only be imported into the app if they were issued as Digital Tickets. If your order was placed using Collect on the Day, Standard Mail, or Secure Delivery, the tickets won’t import because they must be physically posted or collected. To check your delivery method, you can do so on your confirmation email.

Cracked screens can prevent the ticket scanners from reading the mobile ticket. We suggest that you access your tickets using a friend’s phone, or print your ticket at home.

Your eTickets are attached as a PDF to the booking confirmation email. If you prefer to use paper, simply print the PDF.

When processing your booking you will choose the delivery method of your tickets. If you select Email or Print at home, these will be able to be imported into the app.

Once you have imported your tickets to the app, you will be able to view them by tapping My Visit and then Tickets. To view the ticket QR code, select a ticket and it will open. You will need the QR code for our ticket scanners.

If you have booked tickets for a group, we recommend, sending each individual their printed ticket and then they can download the app and import via the tickets QR code.

Firstly on the map select your enclosure and then use either the search or filter bar to find what you are you looking for.

You can download the app from the Apple App store or Google Play, simply search for the racecourse and click download.

Please update to the latest version of the app before arrival.

• Apple/iOS users can do this by checking for available updates in the App Store. Tap your profile icon at the top right, scroll down to pending updates and tap ‘Update’ next to an app to update.
• Android users can do this by opening Play Store, tapping the profile icon, tap ‘Open’, selecting ‘Manage apps and device’ and checking ‘Updates available’.

The app can be downloaded on IOS and Android devices.

You will need to be using IOS 14 and above and on Android 5 as the minimum operating versions.

It is possible to use the app offline, all the functionality will still work but you will not receive any updates – all our racecourses offer free wi-fi on course.
