Cheltenham Gold Cup 100 Limited Edition Playing Cards

With just 52 cards in a set and a hundred years of Gold Cup history, it is impossible for every winner to be represented.

So, we have simply chosen our racecourse favourites for the picture cards. It was a very subjective debate!

The only exception is that the Gold Cup’s four winning mares are automatically allocated as ‘The Queens'. This then allowed for every winner back to Davy Lad in 1977 to be included.

And why Mandarin and Mill House as the Jokers? Well from the remainder we did a random draw - and to be honest, we couldn’t have ended up with two more fitting legends for inclusion in the pack.

By purchasing this limited edition pack of Gold Cup Centenary celebration playing cards you have contributed to a good cause.

Part proceeds are being distributed via a special Gold Cup 100 community fund run in partnership between the Rotary Clubs of Cheltenham and Cheltenham Racecourse.

Please note the playing cards are no longer available to purchase.

History

Although a race known as the Cheltenham Gold Cup had existed in the past as a three-mile Flat race in the 19th century, its present status is very much down to the foresight of Frederick Cathcart, Clerk of the Course and Chairman of Cheltenham Racecourse from 1908 to 1934.
