Darren’s main role is that of a Racecourse Commentator in Britain, a position he has held since the late 90's covering meetings around the country.

In addition to calling the horses for Racetech, he occasionally broadcasts for BBC Radio 5 Live and has been a member of their Grand National commentary team at Aintree since 2014.

Prior to his association with BBC Radio he was part of BBC TV’S National commentary squad from 2004 to 2012.

Darren can be heard commentating for Equidia’s English language service on French racing, in addition to covering meetings in Bahrain during the winter.

His other duties include presenting William Hill’s popular internet Racing Radio show, commentating off tube for Spotlight Media, as well as on course at point to points and harness race meetings.

For many years he worked as a Race Reader for Raceform, Racing Post and The Sporting Life.

Moved to the UK in 1998 as a 16yr old and have worked in the racing industry as a professional national hunt jockey until switching to the flat in 2012 until retiring through injury in 2019.
Lucky enough to ride 270 winners under both codes, including a Cheltenham festival winner in 2010.
Since retiring from the saddle i have worked as a freelance broadcaster for William Hill and Talksport.
Hobbies include riding out several mornings a week, jumping hedges on my ex racehorse at the weekend & supporting my beloved football team Aston Villa.

Writer and broadcaster, Nigel was head of broadcast for many years at William Hill and was a frequent presenter on William Hill Racing and Sports Radio. Living in Cheltenham and The Cotswolds, he is well placed to pick up on The Festival vibe.
