ITV Racing on course this Saturday, 7th January!

Press Release 4th January 2017 Wincanton

British racing welcomes a new terrestrial partner in the form of ITV Racing and this Saturday (7th January) selected Wincanton races will be broadcast live on ITV4 with Rishi Persad on-course.

The soft going has attracted a bumper 143 entries in the six racecard with the first race scheduled at 12:55pm.

Saturday’s fixture (7/1/17) celebrates Newcomer’s Day and offers multiple weighing room and course tours, plus a variety of parade ring interviews with sporting folk from a trainer and jockey; to a valet and a betting explained insight.

Gates open at 10:30am with the first complimentary tour starting at 11:30am.

Wincanton’s second January meeting on Thursday, 19th sees the return of the Higos Insurance Services Somerset National. This feature race is run over three miles and two furlongs and is a nice pointer for future staying chasers with the Grand National in their long-term sights.

The Thursday fixture also sees Wincanton welcome their one enclosure entry price of £12 per person (advance booking) and £14 on the day entry for six competitive contests that will be supported by the country’s best trainers from Paul Nicholls to Colin Tizzard.

Gates open at 11:30am with tickets available on 0344 579 3014 or visit wincanton.thejockeyclub.co.uk

Huw Williams, General Manager of Wincanton Racecourse, said: “Wincanton concluded 2016 with a 10,000 strong crowd on Boxing Day and celebrated jockey Andrew Thornton achieving his 1000th winner on course.

“We warmly welcome 2017 that will see Wincanton celebrate our very own 150th birthday.

“We have many activities planned to mark this landmark with a summer highlight being Jess Glynne playing live at Wincanton on Saturday, 1st July.”
