The Jockey Club can today outline changes to upcoming fixtures following a sustained period of dry weather and unseasonably warm temperatures.
Exeter Racecourse’s Season Opener (Thursday 15th October) has been cancelled. With limited watering capacity and very little rain in the forecast, conditions are unlikely to improve sufficiently to provide safe ground for racing.
We are exploring alternative options should Exeter’s second fixture (Tuesday 20th October) need to be cancelled. We will continue to closely monitor the weather forecast and ground conditions and provide an update as soon as possible.
Wincanton Racecourse’s Season Opener, scheduled for Sunday 25th October, will now take place at Market Rasen on the same date. The full card will be transferred to Market Rasen, where racing has been taking place throughout the summer and safe ground can be provided. Unfortunately, due to the warm and dry weather and the limited ability to water, conditions at Wincanton are not improving sufficiently to allow the fixture to take place as planned.
Kempton Park’s first Jump fixture of the season is scheduled for Sunday 18th October. While no decision has yet been made regarding the running of this meeting, ground conditions are not fit for Jump racing at present. However, alternative options for staging the races elsewhere are currently being explored should conditions not improve over the next week. Further updates will be provided as soon as decisions are made.
General Admission ticket holders for the cancelled racedays will be automatically refunded, and our teams will be in touch with hospitality guests directly.
Tickets for the additional fixture at Market Rasen will be on sale from £10 in advance. Wincanton Racecourse Annual Members will also be able to attend as part of an additional reciprocal arrangement.
