William Hill and JCR agree 5-year betting shop deal

Press Release 12th July 2018

By The Jockey Club

William Hill will operate retail betting shops at all 15 of The Jockey Club's racecourses nationwide from this week, it was announced today.

A five-year agreement has been reached between the two parties that will see William Hill provide a High Street retail betting shop experience across 31 on-course facilities (at minimum) at Jockey Club Racecourses (JCR), including at Aintree, Cheltenham, Epsom Downs and Newmarket’s two courses.

William Hill will succeed current partner, Betfred, as JCR’s exclusive betting shop provider, with the only exceptions being at Cheltenham, where William Hill will operate at least six facilities alongside the existing Star Sports and The Winning Post shops.

This means the William Hill service will be available to nearly two million racegoers a year who attend JCR’s 348 fixtures.

In addition, JCR has worked with six independent racecourses to help to coordinate their on-course betting shop rights and negotiate these as part of its own agreement. As a result, William Hill will also operate retail betting shops at Leicester, Newton Abbot, Plumpton, Salisbury, Stratford and Taunton over the same period.

William Hill’s Divisional Director, Steven White, said:

“We are delighted to reach this landmark agreement with Jockey Club Racecourses. William Hill shares The Jockey Club’s vision and passion for horseracing and we believe this will be a formidable partnership that will benefit the sport of horseracing for years to come.”

Dickon White, Group Betting Director, Jockey Club Racecourses, said:

“I’m really pleased that we have reached agreement with William Hill to provide a comprehensive retail service to our customers across all 15 of The Jockey Club’s racecourses. They have proved an excellent partner in other areas over time and provided a compelling five-year offer through a competitive process.”

Pat Masterson, Managing Director of Newton Abbot Races, said:

“On behalf of the six independent racecourses we are delighted to team up with William Hill and very much look forward to a successful partnership for the next five years.”

JCR’s 15 racecourses where William Hill will operate are: Aintree, Carlisle, Cheltenham, Epsom Downs, Exeter, Haydock Park, Huntingdon, Kempton Park, Market Rasen, Newmarket July Course, Newmarket Rowley Mile, Nottingham, Sandown Park, Warwick and Wincanton.
