CHELTENHAM FESTIVAL NEWS: SINGER CAPITAL MARKETS ANNOUNCED AS NEW SPONSOR OF GRADE ONE ARKLE NOVICES’ CHASE
Singer Capital Markets – a leading UK Investment Bank– is today announced as the new sponsor of the Arkle Novices’ Chase at The Festival, one of the most prestigious races in the National Hunt calendar. The race will now be run as the Singer Arkle Novices’ Chase, with the winning connections receiving the Singer Arkle trophy.
The £200,000 Grade One contest is the championship novices’ chase staged over two miles and takes place on the opening day of The Festival, Champion Day (Tuesday 10 March 2026).

This sponsorship marks Singer Capital Markets’ first involvement in horseracing, building on its commitment to elite sport demonstrated through its sponsorship of Chelsea Women and Women’s rackets sports. Entries for the Singer Arkle Novices’ Chase were announced on Tuesday 20th February. Lulamba is the current favourite and will be bidding to hand trainer Nicky Henderson a record-extending ninth victory in the contest.
Singer Arkle Novices’ Chase (Grade 1) 1m 7f 199y
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
The Grade One Singer Arkle Chase, the two-mile novice chasing championship race, was inaugurated with its current title in 1969, after Arkle’s three wins in the Cheltenham Gold Cup (1964-66). It was known as the Cotswold Chase before 1969.
FIELD SIZE
The lowest number of runners has been five (2018, 2021 and 2025) and the highest 19 (1987 and 2005) as the Arkle Chase – though there were 25 runners in the Cotswold Chase in 1960. The current safety limit is 18.
MOST SUCCESSFUL OWNER
The late David Johnson with four winners – Or Royal (1997), Champleve (1998), Well Chief (2004) and Contraband (2005).

The longest-priced winner is Western Warhorse, successful at 33-1 in 2014. The shortest-priced winners are Douvan (2016) and Altior (2017), both 1-4 chances.
