Article 25th March 2019 Newmarket

Children are being encouraged to get creative in the holidays and bring their own Easter bonnet to the first family race day of the season as #SpringStarts at the home of horseracing!

In a child friendly spin on traditional Ladies Day hats, children can take part in a FashionEaster competition at the Rowley Mile Racecourse on the third day of the bet365 Craven Meeting, Thursday 18th April, with under 18s benefiting from free entry. The overall winner and two runners-up will share Hotel Chocolat goodies worth £150, Selfie t-shirts and a Royal Mint 50p keepsake featuring Peter Rabbit, who will be presenting the prizes himself!

Amy Starkey, director of Jockey Club Racecourses’ East Region, said: “The Craven Meeting falling in the Easter holidays this year presents families with the perfect opportunity to enjoy world-class sport at the Home of Horseracing, with under-18s getting in free to all of our meetings except for Newmarket Nights and Summer Saturdays.

“Style is a key element of the Newmarket racing experience and our FashionEaster event is a fantastic way for children to feel a part of it while showing off their creative skills. I can’t wait to see what they come up with!”

The Rowley Kids Club will also be offering Easter egg hunts, face painting and bouncy castles. There will be storytelling and activity trails with Peter Rabbit and plenty of opportunities for photographs.

Children will need to bring their Easter bonnets, fascinators or trilbies to the Rowley Kids Club Marquee within the Grandstand & Paddock enclosure between 11:50am and 1:30pm on the 18th. The winner and runners-up will be announced after the first race.

The bet365 Craven Meeting from 16th to 18th April is the first event of the year on the world famous Rowley Mile Racecourse at the Home of Horseracing. A meeting that heralds the intensity of the new Flat season, the Craven is a vital chance for owners, trainers, pundits and racing fans to gauge the form just weeks prior to the QIPCO 2000 Guineas Festival.
