We are almost one month into our summer break, and our Groundstaff team have been busy at work, ensuring the course is fresh and ready for racing in October at The Showcase.
Head Groundsman, Ben Hastie has been busy Scarifying the course (scarify - to cut or remove debris) with the help of the rest of the Groundstaff team. Throughout the summer, all 3 courses Old, New & Cross Country will be completed. The reason why this process is completed is to take out all the dead material in the racing surface. This helps allow for the new healthy grass shoots to grow through, creating a denser and more desirable surface for racing.
As Ben Hastie said, ‘It’s like exfoliating our skin!’ Ideally, the weather needs to be dry for Scarification to take place so Ben is hoping for plenty of dry days as it will take his team a good month to complete the process.
Our course will be looking fresh, bright and ready for The Showcase on 25th & 26th October 2019.
See you there!
